Hi Duncan
Ok on blocking those two calls.
need you to run a test for me regarding the LogL4 in BPQ that john added
the other day.
i find it does not log all connections which i would prefer.
i can connect via xr32 into BPQ BBS and it gets logged
if i use Bpq web interface on a network PC,not logged
I tried DxRetriever,& TCPTerm , again connection not logged.

could you connect to gb7cow-5 xr32
type bpqbbs
that will connect to gb7cow-1 bpq bbs
list a few messages then discon
i want to see if external connections are logged

Hi Duncan
your connection was logged, thanks for doing the test
read your message also.
re MB7URP,you may just have to let him carry on for now,
john is thinking of adding a blocking option too BPQ.
about time he took action.
i asked him about two years ago for it.

Hi Kenny,
Thanks for the info...I had blocked MB7URP,0,1 and MB7URP,0,3 to no apparent avail. I could exclude them any way by reducing the distance...they are all, pretty well close to the limit I have set.
If John is going to oblige, and it shouldn't take him long, a new version of BPQ is imminent.
No problem with the test, it gave me an excuse to explore.
I am still playing around with my xrouter.cfg, so the DX list may suffer!

Hello Kenny,
It is a link but Winlink is a no-no under the terms of our licence. I read my winlink mailbox on the internet direct to their website.
I used to make the link on 40m HF to Switzerland

Hi Duncan
I knew there was a mode which was a no-no
could not remember what it was.
so i wont bother with RMS.
Yanks seem to all have it,but they dont have our kind of rules.
Ofcom & RSGB need to lighten up on some of the rules
not keep coming out with new ones.

Hi Kenny,
I have removed the RMS links from my nodes. Actually, the yanks have tightened up on RMS access. My secure password/login combination had expired. There were 4 msgs for me on the CMS server to that effect. So I wont be renewing. No doubt their Homeland Security is beginning to bite.

Hello Duncan
what amazes me with the Yanks, they have HF pactor,RMS,2Mtr,70cms and every other mode, but hardly any users

Same with Aprs over here, the bands use to be full of chat via RF working through nodes, now its all telemetry data popping up in the message box

ok on the removing RMS from your node list, dont think you will be missing much

We've been lucky so far..by the time it reaches us most of the sting has gone out of it.
Wind has been pretty strong and we are pretty exposed, but so far, no tiles have come off the roof.
Lightning strikes have been known to take a transformer or two out in the sub station across the field. Free fireworks display. Very Happy

Post by g4mki on Wed Feb 10, 2016 4:33 pm

Hi Kenny,
My laptop serves the same purpose as far as HF goes but I do have remote desktops set up on it to access all my pi's.
It has been the second Wednesday at the mill building some new access steps from the second floor down to the reefing stage. When I was fitting the new external door, a few weeks back, one of the treads collapsed under my weight, fortunately, very slowly. There are access steps on both sides which have provided 10 years of service, but are beginning to rot. As soon as I finish one set, I will begin the other. Should all be done by Easter, but they are not used by our visitors, the reefing stage is a no-go area to the public.
I haven't started to rebuild the six sail shutters sitting in the garage..its been too cold out there.
Like yours, our weather is much improved today, it has been bright and sunny but not particularly warm..7C now and likely to be cooling as dusk is rapidly approaching, although noticeably later in the day than a week or two back.
The PMR rig is back in operation, so I have reset the pi's and can use the 706MkIIG for HF once again.

Re: General Chat

Post by g4mki on Thu Feb 11, 2016 8:58 pm

Hi Kenny,
I have downloaded the software used by the Watson-w-8681 solar WX station and as far as I can tell it does not generate an APRS compatible text file, and would not display weather data in your radio beacons.
As a work around i have been looking at alternative software which will work with the Watson -w 8681 weather station and, so far, have found nothing suitable.
Usually, either Ambient Virtual Weather Station Software, or Weather-Display software are used for amateur APRS applications. I have use both, at various times, and know that the .txt file they produce is OK.
When John started his aprs development I alerted him to the problem. The APRS spec is not always interpreted correctly by software developers, some re-arrange the order of the parameters in the text string and it won't be transmitted.
wxnow.txt:  (Example which works)

Nov 25 2015 17:35
000/000g004t046r000p000P000h087b10113

The correct format is shown above.

Both Ambient (VWS) and Weather Display provide lists of compatible wx stations. Probably, a better starting point.
The name of the text file can also  vary from one version to another, in some it is wxnow.txt, in others wxreport.txt, as examples.

Hi Kenny,
Another potential problem you will need to overcome is transferring the wxnow.txt file into /linbpq at regular intervals, after it has been generated by the weather station software.
On my system, as it is set up at the moment, I am running Virtual Weather Station in Windows, and BPQ32 in linux.

Hi Kenny,
No, not locked up in the windmill.
I have been through the html, code virtually line by line, on the version of my website on Mint (dbray.no-ip.org:83/index.php). The only links to other computers on my website are to BRIARY and HMPTON.
I'd got lazy, it was easier to make links to the original site g4mki.no-ip.org, instead of copying all the files over, and I was beginning to make editing errors.

I am nor surprised about G3LDI etc.

Re: General Chat

Post by g4mki on Fri Feb 19, 2016 6:28 pm

The Windmill:
In a gale at the end of November, we lost 4 of the 6 fantail blades, and at the time
I had just finished making 2 spare blades.
At the AGM, at the end of November, it was decided to call upon a firm of millwrights to make a replacement set rather than rely on me to do the job. They were also asked to inspect some rot and a long split in one of the wooden whips on a sail. As we had  about £12,000 in the kitty, the decision was taken to pay for the new fantail blades out of mill funds rather than wait for KCC to make a decision. In the event, KCC agreed to pay, but we are still awaiting their decision on the whip.
When I first discussed making the fantail blades I thought it better to use marine ply rather than traditional softwood boards, However, our engineer, a Chartered Architect, wanted traditional softwood..Grade 1 listing etc. So that ios what I used.
I was involved in the discussion with the millwright and he, like me, suggested
marine play in oak stocks...so that is what we now have.
I then went on to discus the condition of the shutters, which are basically a wooden frame with canvas attached to one side to keep the weight down. Unfortunately, the person who made the existing ones built in a fundamental weakness which has resulted in several falling off!
They need to be re-designed and replaced.
While all of this has been going on, KCC has decided to introduce Health and Safety regulation to their windmills. So for the moment, although we will open to the public at Easter, the sails may not go round until the split whip is replaced.
That will cost KCC £6000! In the meantime, I have been told not waste repairing the dozen or so brokens hutters in my garage.
So for the moment, I am making new sets of steps to the reefing stage,

Hello Duncan
sounds like a very expensive project keeping the windmill up to scratch.
surprised KCC have the money to paid for the work.
with Health and Safety being introduce you need to speak too your committee
and discuss liability
i may take a drive over to the windmill one day.
i like windmills & lighthouses

re Linux Mint Rosa
i created the .iso today on a USB stick. i may update the Linux Lite PC which is running my Dxcluster
the linux mint 17.1 PC has my website on it and BPQmail, I have backup of all the files etc,
but i don't won't to have to redo it all again,
so it can stay as it is.

read your email re GB7
"nuff said" as they say.
